The short version

  • We only collect what we need to run the site and reply to you.
  • We never sell your personal data.
  • Non-essential cookies are only used with your consent.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time.
  • We follow UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

01 Who we are

Today’s Choice (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent UK lifestyle website. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, please contact us through our Contact page.

02 The information we collect

We only collect the information we need. This may include:

  • Contact form messages: your name, email address and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address and, if given, your first name.
  • Comments: your name, email address, comment and the IP address it was sent from.
  • Usage data: pages visited, time spent on the site, device and browser type, and approximate location (country or city), collected through cookies and analytics tools.

We do not knowingly collect special category data (such as health or religious information), and our website is not aimed at children under 13.

03 How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • reply to your messages and enquiries;
  • send our newsletter, if you have signed up;
  • publish and moderate comments;
  • understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it;
  • keep the website secure and prevent spam or misuse;
  • meet our legal obligations.

04 Our legal basis

Under UK data protection law we must have a lawful reason to use your data. We rely on:

  • Consent — for our newsletter and for non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to reply to messages, run and improve the website and keep it secure, where this does not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where the law requires us to keep or share certain information.

05 Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:

  • Essential cookies — needed for the website to work. These do not need your consent.
  • Analytics cookies — to understand which pages are popular (for example Google Analytics).
  • Advertising and affiliate cookies — set by ad networks and affiliate partners to show relevant adverts and track purchases made through our links.

Non-essential cookies are only set if you agree through our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time, or block cookies in your browser settings. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

06 Affiliate links and third parties

When you click an affiliate link and buy something, the retailer or affiliate network may use cookies to record that the sale came from our website. We do not receive your name, address or payment details from these purchases.

Once you leave our site, the other website’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for how other websites handle your data.

07 Who we share your data with

We never sell your personal data. We only share it with trusted service providers who help us run the website, such as our web host, email newsletter provider, analytics provider and spam-protection tools. They may only use your data to provide their service to us.

We may also share information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

08 International transfers

Some of our service providers may store data outside the UK. Where this happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, so your data stays protected.

09 How long we keep your data

  • Contact messages: up to 2 years, then deleted.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
  • Analytics data: in line with the analytics provider’s retention settings, usually up to 26 months.

We delete or anonymise data when we no longer need it.

10 Keeping your data safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including a secure (HTTPS) connection, up-to-date software and restricted access. No website can be 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.

11 Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate data;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data;
  • ask for your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails.

To use any of these rights, contact us through our Contact page. We will reply within one month. There is usually no charge.

12 Making a complaint

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

13 Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top. If we make important changes, we may also let you know by email or with a notice on the website.
